Curate a Topic

While topics typically serve as building blocks for covering a course, they can also function as standalone small learning entities which can be learned quickly by learners.

Note: We highly recommend to check our example tutorial in order to get a general insight about eDoer, before start reading this page.

Table of Content

Create a topic

Locate the “+” icon situated at the bottom right of the application, simply click on it. Upon doing so, you will encounter an option labeled “New Topic”. To successfully add a topic, provide the necessary details such as the topic title, choose the language, and specify any relevant organization affiliation (optional). Once these parameters are configured, proceed to click the “Add topic” button.

For a visual walkthrough of this process, check the accompanying video. Additionally, in subsequent sections of this tutorial, we will explore how to edit the topics you have created.

Note: We strongly advise selecting a descriptive title for your topic that effectively encapsulates the material taught within it. This practice not only enhances resource recommendations but also makes it easier for others to discover your topic through search functionality.

Share a Topic

To share a topic, navigate to the topic homepage first. Then, from the top-right menu, select the “Share for Content Curators” or “Share for Learners” option.

Delete a Topic

To delete a topic, navigate to the topic homepage first. Then, from the top-right menu, select the “Delete” option. It is worth noting that topics can only be deleted as long as they have no learners (except the owners/editors of the topic).

Topic Homepage

A home page of a topic looks like this. The tab bar, highlighted in red, displays various tabs that enable users to make changes to resources, topic information, and collaborator permissions.

Topic homepage also features a dashboard, providing the content curator with statistics about the topic.

  1. Viewing a dashboard with statistics about the learners.
  2. Finding the actions which need your attention (e.g., access requests).
  1. Viewing the list of current resource-sets assigned to the topic.
  2. Adding/Deleting resource-sets.
  1. Viewing the topic code, along with general details like language and title.
  2. Editing of topic title, description, and learning outcomes, etc. Note that this information is crucial for our recommendation system, so it is essential to input relevant details.
  1. Viewing/Managing all owners/editors of the topic.
  2. Inviting other users as editors using the invitation link.
  3. Deciding about pending editor access requests.

Resource-set

In our system, resource-sets refer to content that covers a specific topic. It could include one/several resources that can take various forms, such as a PDF file, a link to a webpage. While, typically a resource-set covers a single topic, it is important to note that this is not a strict requirement. It means you have the flexibility to specify that one resource-set covers multiple topics.

Additionally, our system features a recommender system that queries various sources from the web, including YouTube and Google, to find relevant online resources. This functionality is designed to streamline and simplify the curation process, making it more efficient and user-friendly.

Create a Resource-set

To add a resource-set to a topic, start by going to the resource-set tab of the topic. Then, follow these steps:

  1.  Click on “Add Resource-set” , then you can build a resource-set by providing links, uploading files, or selecting from existing edoer resources. Keep in mind that when you upload a file, the system assumes you have the right to do that, and edoer software is not liable for copyright infringement, as indicated in our Terms of Service.
  2. Another option is to utilize our recommender system, which is straightforward. You can click on the “Show” button. It might take a few seconds, but you will then see multiple recommendations that you can choose from, as illustrated in the videos.

Covering Multiple Topics per Resource-set

In certain cases, it may be beneficial to have a single resource that covers multiple topics in your course. In such scenarios, we have a separate function accessible through the “+” button in course page, called “Add Resource Set.” This function enables you to select multiple topics and assign one resource-set to cover them.
